One of the most overrated factors in the world of search engine optimization is the value of PageRank. According to most expert articles about SEO, a site's page ranking holds great importance especially when one wants to make a lot of money online. It is because your page rank entails not just your popularity as a website following a certain niche, but as your site's substance and functionality in catering to your audience's needs. Read More »

I have a love-hate relationship with Twitter. Ever since the mainstream has gotten hold of it, it's become another medium in which people can use it for good and for stupids. I certainly love all the good that has come out of it, from the people I follow who have given me links and tidbits of answers to questions I wouldn't have asked to the things I can do with it beyond what it was designed for. Yet I also hate the fact that Twitter has become a pooling soup of noise, proving once again that human beings waste more time on useless endeavors and thoughts than they do on more functional aspects of life. Ok something a bit more technical this afternoon. Not so much for beginners but for those with some web design experience.
Today I've been involved in a debate on an SEO forum about how important having valid HTML markup on your website is. I had previously read in a posting by Google themselves that they don't give priority to pages that validate, in fact, they said they don't even check that. If you search for anything on Google and try and validate the top pages, unless you're searching for webdesign or something similar (most web designers today are very anal about having valid code) most if not all of the top pages won't validate using the W3 HTML Validation tool. It's nice working in a company that values what you do. I mentioned previously that I now have resources to use. A first for me, I have to say. So what are these resources? Well, firstly the company has money so I have a budget. This is very useful - we can buy a listing in the Yahoo Directory (good for both generating a little traffic and SEO) and things like that. We'll probably even look at having a short Google Adwords Campaign. More on that a little later. What other resources? Get this - the company is currently building it's own video studio and editing suite for the purpose of having our own live online TV channel. Plus, we're already drawing up ideas for a viral marketing campaign. We also have some copywriters at our disposal, photographers, 3D animators and a few actors + voice-over actors as well as a highly talented marketing team. Marketing and SEO heaven! Read More »

It's been nearly 5 months since my last post. I took redundancy from my job at Diseño Earle just before Christmas due to not being paid for 3 months. As you can imagine, it's been pretty tough over the past few months but finally things are on the up - I just started working this week for a travel company who are soon to be launching a new Home Travel Business product. I've been brought on board to take charge of the SEO and promotion of the site. It's an exciting position for me, there's a lot of scope here and unlike the last place I worked, we have resources... We've moved up another page for the term architects. It's going to be fairly slow going from here on in, but I'm expecting another jump soon - I've been going through and changing our anchor text in the signatures of various forum accounts that I post to and looking at the 'what googlebot sees' feature in Google's webmaster tools the term 'architects' has shot up to number 4 on our list, and 'international architects' (our previous target) has moved down to number 7. This should start affecting the SERPs any day now. Google seems to be quite slow nowadays. I made some text changes on the site about 2 weeks ago and it's yet to show up in the SERPs. I'll keep you posted on what happens when it finally hits home. Read More »

Before we crack on, today we've jumped up to page 49 for the term architects. Not bad given that a fortnight ago we weren't ranking for that term. More news on our progress next week. Oh, and for those that care, this jump in rank appears to be purely down to changing my keyword density. Read More »

As Staind said, it's been a while. Great song, lacking only in a decent excuse as to why I haven't posted in a while. Busy at work, usual stuff really...
Quick word on the music side of things: recording is going well and I'm playing around with about 18 songs at the minute, though I expect I'll whittle that down to about 10 or 11 for the release. 1 song is nearly ready and I'm confident about getting it ready by xmas, possibly sooner... Read More »
